The missing piece of the
puzzle in the Canadian
Mortgage Industry
A career as a mortgage professional is rewarding in many ways! You get to help people achieve their dream of owning a home, you get to be your own boss and choose your own hours, it's definitely never boring, and your success is a direct result of your own effort. The more you put into it, the more you get out of it!
There is much to learn! Provincial regulations, interest rates, lender guidelines, sales and marketing, not to mention that technology in the mortgage industry is advancing and progressing almost on a daily basis!
These are all very important parts of the job, but the foundation of your new career is a working knowledge of basic Canadian mortgage lending guidelines and the mortgage process, step by step from the broker point of view. That is the purpose of the training material available here; to help you build that foundation.
You've probably discovered that your provincially-mandated licensing course didn't exactly teach you about the day-to-day job of being a mortgage broker.
The generally accepted method of training new mortgage brokers is to have you observe an established, experienced mortgage broker ("mentor"), find your first client and then learn-as-you-go. Sometimes this method can work, but more often it doesn’t, and for a variety of reasons (more about this on the "Mortgage Broker Training" page).
You may get some help and suggestions for marketing yourself and finding clients, which is important, of course. But once you’ve booked your first client meeting, how will you know the right questions to ask, and how to advise the client? Wouldn't it be better if you felt confident and really ready for that first meeting?
The training material here was written for new mortgage professionals in Canada. It's divided into individual chapters, so you can purchase only the chapters you feel you need. The material is written for those new to the industry. It's easy to understand and the commonly used industry 'jargon', acronyms and abbreviations are all explained.
All of this material is completely "neutral". There is no lender, insurer, brokerage, or other mortgage industry related company being promoted. It is simply material created by a mortgage broker, for new mortgage brokers. It will help you 'connect the dots' of what you've learned so far and what you still need to know, and explain the 'why'.
Learn at your own pace in your own home or office, always have the material for reference. And because I know what it's like to be a new mortgage broker (it can take a while before you start earning) it's very affordable. There's lots of free informative material to download as well.
My mission is to help newly licensed mortgage professionals advise and help Canadian consumers more effectively. I want consumers to have positive experiences with their mortgage brokers. Mortgage brokers are an important part of the mortgage market; they offer an alternative to the big banks, and they can help when the big banks can't.
I hope the material here helps you to build both the knowledge and the confidence you need to be a successful mortgage professional!
