ABOUT ME
Hi! I'm Julia Krause, and I started out in the mortgage business in 1992 in Kelowna, British Columbia, as an assistant to an office of mortgage brokers.
As an assistant, I learned the job of mortgage broker before I got my own broker license in 1996, and years later I would realize how unusual that is!
I had been actively brokering for about ten years when I decided to join a small training company. For about three years, I co-wrote, helped to develop, and delivered training sessions for new mortgage brokers and agents all across Canada.
The rise of the national brokerages was taking place at that time, and those companies were recruiting people from all lines of work to become mortgage brokers and agents. Many had no experience whatsoever in financial services, and I was amazed by the positive and grateful responses I received from course participants.
I returned to brokering in 2008 and also continued to do some training locally and for my provincial mortgage brokers association.
In 2014 I started working in private lending, as administrator of a mortgage investment corporation (MIC) and as an underwriter for private lenders.
Reviewing and underwriting private mortgage files from other mortgage brokers made me see that basic training for new mortgage brokers and agents is still needed. That's the reason for this website, and the material available here.
